Bude to Boscastle
The first stage of a walk from Bude to Newquay with the East Lancs Group of the Long Distance Walkers Association. This 17 mile stretch is described as strenuous in the book and it is. It includes the highest cliff in Cornwall- High Cliff- imposing and bulky at 731 feet (223m). As a young architect Thomas Hardy was sent to restore St Juliot Church up in the Valency Valley behind Boscastle. Whilst there he also wrote A Pair of Blue Eyes in which he used the cliff top as a setting for a dramatic and romantic cliff top rescue. A wonderful day of sunshine, strong breezes, and the odd shower.
