We Don't Need No Education...
Dramatic End to Waterloo Road Tonight....
I haven't watched this in ages, and annoyed Tooli all the way through asking her who everyone was, and what they were up to. LOL
I trained as a teacher, postgraduate in secondary education. I always intended to be a teacher, but after 4 years on a degree course, was bored, and wanted out into the world. When Boy was just a year old, I signed on to the PGCE, they were "desperate" for teachers.....
My subject tutor was a flipping nightmare. Her first lesson was "how to get out of the classroom safely", followed by "selecting a teacher's pet'" cause you need one to help you get out the class.... Hmmm.
Imagine my surpise on my first day on placement, and I walked in, and flipping hairies... THEY WERE CHILDREN.
That's not to say that there weren't horrors. There were horrors, complete and utter horrors, that you would not tire hitting their head off a desk. They were rude, they were abusive, they were so far up their own arsehole, and you just knew that Daddy's money was going to keep them in work for the rest of their life.
On the day of my first crit. I threw up. I had diaroeah. I shook. I got an A.
When I was interviewed by the local Education Authority, I was graded "eminently suitable". There were no jobs.
I took a position lecturing at a local technical college - the scene of some of the best lectures in the Law of Negative Marginal Utility. After a year, I went on Maternity leave, and never went back.
When I tried to get back into teaching, I had to complete 90 days in supply in my subject area in order to be considered for a full time permanent position. In order to get supply, I had to be available, in order to be available, I had to be at home. The Supply I got, in Physics, maths, or even Biology, was sporatic, and mostly amounted to crowd control. It's easy to figure, you have to provide supply for the classes the teachers can't face.
It was a no win situation.
Accountings Gain, was Educations Loss. Oh yes it was.
