Split Apple Rock

Today is Anzac Day - the day that New Zealanders and Australians remember the sacrifices made by our countrymen (and women) in wartimes. Most kiwis attend a service today - taking a moment to remember how fortunate we are, and how different things might have been. We pay our repsects to those who have kept our country safe, even at the cost of their own lives.

Late morning Kiwilizzie and I chose to head to Kaiteriteri for a drive and a blip hunt. We went up the river and took photos of birds (kingfishers, herons, pied stilts, ducks, shags, terns, tui and oystercatchers) and then we decided to go for a small cruise around to Spilt Apple Rock.

What a great trip it was - really reasonable cost for a 90 minute trip, a cruise around the bays - with commentary, a coffee (provided) at Split Apple Rock whilst feeding the fish, and a cruise back to Kaiteriteri. Wonderful experience - definitely a must do if you find yourself in Kaiteriteri.

It has been over 30 years since I'd personally seen the rock so today's trip also reminded me of some great days spent lazing and fishing on boats in my youth.

The weather has been incredible, we didn't even need jackets out on the open boat and as you can see the sunshine did amazing things for the colour of the water in Tasman Bay today.
