A seasider's view

X is for Xenophon

"Thalassa! Thalassa!" or, if you prefer, "The Sea! The Sea!"

From Xenophon's Anabasis, IV:7, ?354 BC. According to the World of Quotes site, this was "Shouted by Greek soldiers from the Expedition of Cyrus when they reached the safety of the coast after months of military retreat crossing the endless expanses on inland Armenia."

Sorry this is a bit obscure, but real life cases of the letter X aren't too plentiful. And I couldn't source a xylophone at short notice :o)

Besides, what's the point of working in a college library if you can't exploit the knowledge?

Anyway, funnily enough, this isn't Armenia, but the shore down by Saltcoats harbour, looking across to Irvine. Wonderful clouds and skyscape tonight when I got home from work.
