Puff puff

This charming sticker was attached to a stink pipe, a perfect example of why I find that C19th so blooming interesting.

Stink pipes were part of the Victorian sewage system, and with all things old the interpretation of them and their use is a hotbed of three or so people caring and discussing in in the realm of the information superhighway that is the t'internet.

Cor, remember when the internet was referred to as that the information superhighway, cor the 90s/early 00s could be lame!!!

Street furniture and remnants of the Victorian/Edwardian era (and others but not many really survive where we can trip over them) make me tingle, possibly as I need to get out more and step away from the history, but aslo as there was such 'pride' or attention to how stuff looked, and that nice things could make your experience better.

Old William Morris, the second best thing to come out of Walthamstow after e17, said that stuff should be beautiful and useful, and I think these stink pipes express that perfectly.

The sticker is quite cool too, and appealed to my inner rebel as I am working in an area that whilst beautiful and charming, is (on initial interactions with) not very edgy, and the twee can get a bit...well twee.

That said I get to talk to loads of old people, and they crack me up. I know all about Doris and Bill's health, their hip replacements, how the family is doing, how Reg ain't been back to the town since he was 14, what Sheila thinks about progress and how George don't mind a bit of change and is all about the Arab Spring (all names have been chosen, and I am not working in an old peoples home)
