Great Aspirations!
This young woman is competing at the trials for potential members of the British Bobsleigh team in preparation for the winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014. She is a power lifter (85kgs!!!!) and was an 800 400 metre sprinter in her university days in New York. The ability to push a sled over ice needs power/strength and speed. She was looking for help to improve her 30 metre standing start sprint and her flying 30 metre times. She emailed B to arrange a session at the track.
I saw this as a good opportunity to improve my skills in photographing moving objects in daylight. B's normal coaching sessions are in the evenings, so too dark at present.
The young man who travelled with her was most interesting to speak to. I'd taken a book to read to help pass the time, but he was better than any book (that's another story)!!!
She has a great deal of work to do in the short period of time before the trials, but sounds very determined!! We will keep in touch to hear how she gets on.
On the way back I called in at the pond to check on the Canada Goose from previous blips. She was doing a bit of housekeeping as I arrived and I got a quick shot of her 3 eggs.
Update on the bird box: I was convinced that I saw an egg on Tuesday evening, but there was no evidence of any eggs when we checked last night (Friday). The nest was still empty at 2pm today, but when I checked at 6pm there there were 4 eggs. Mum was out of the nest, but returned by 7pm and has settled down for the night.
