Artful Vine on a Museum
Today we flew home to Massachusett: Marseille to Frankfurt, laid over for six hours, then to Boston and were driven to Northampton.
The layover in Frankfurt passed easily: We were picked up by our two friends Heidi and Guenter, and visited the Staedel Museum (where I blipped them last January--this wonderful vine is on one of its outside walls.
We lunched at the museum and then saw the brand new galleries for contemporary art--a huge underground space behind the original museum, with wonderful natural lighting from 195 large round skylights (visibly on a wide lawn above ground. (The link provides an excellent account of the space and its funding--much of it private, very unusual in Germany.)
We also viewed an exquisite loan exhibition on the landscapes of the French 17th century artist Claude Lorrain--relatively few paintings (though superb ones), but many drawings and etchings, demonstrating his great talent as a draftsman.
Back at home we collapsed into bed, so this is backblipped on Sunday.
