Cascade des Anglais
I did a few jobs this morning and went to the market. The fish man and I did our usual mutual testing of English and French fish terms. There has been some debate recently over his bar and loup de mer both of which are translated in some dictionaries as sea bass. The bar is confusingly often called loup in Mediterranean areas. He correctly insists they are two completely different fish. After a bit of research it transpires that bar is in fact sea perch. The weather was ideal for a walk so I took myself off to the Cascade des Anglais in the afternoon about an hour or so away up towards the pic du Canigou. It is a steady, rocky climb and I was more appropriately dressed than the Edwardian ladies in the postcard framed on my wall, a card I was lucky to find, along with some others dating from the Belle Epoque, in a Paris card collectors' shop. How they managed the walk in their long skirts and thick clothing is a mystery to me. I have put some photos of the waterfall here. I chose this one because I liked the flash of red in it.
