Diary of an Edinburgher

The Pigeon Whisperer...

Hot-footed it down to JL yesterday to check out, with a view to procuring, a New iPad.

Silly idea. No way. They don't actually have any.

No, you can't order one.

No, they can't tell you when they're in - check the website. Daily. Hourly.

The chap didn't seem too bothered about securing a sale and suggested I go to CanCom, but I told him that was shut/closed/kaput. He seemed mildly surprised, then ambled off to 'serve' someone else.

JL give a 2 year guarantee, so I think it's best to get one through them, although the Apple Store will take your order, and your money and you wait in line. Mmmm. What to do? Wait to hopefully grab one at JL, but might have to hang around till the next iPad comes out...

On a blip wander today, I missed out on the most amazing one. A pigeon flew at me and fluttered - nay, hovered -about a foot in front of my camera for - oh - ages. I think it was checking out my beautiful purple camera! (Ooops, I think I've just lost some street cred - a purple camera??). Did I have the right speed (technical term - not fleetness of foot) ready for such a happening? No!

I did follow it around a bit more, coo-ing invitingly at it, trying to persuade it to try again. But I was beginning to get strange looks from the folk on the nearby bench eating their sandwiches and nervously wondering why I was harassing one pigeon when there were many many more. Maybe I was coo-ing at the wrong one ...

However, after that disappointment, we happened in to my second favourite eating place (after the help-yourself-roast-and-bottomless-ice-cream heaven of the south coast carvery) - although it doesn't do bottomless anything- and had a very scrummy meal.

There were loads of mums and babies. I always like to wave, roll my eyes and hide behind my napkin with nearby babies, and they don't always start crying.

This wee chap was positively amused by my antics. The mums were too busy yakking to notice me taking a photo. I hope they're not blippers... I had to crop it a lot, and because of the extra rubbish around, I used one of the handy blurry edges filters in iPhoto.

Off to the theatre underground tonight. Not the underground theatre. Not at our age!
