Diary of an Edinburgher

Post-Henry Pickup Needed. I know just the thing!

Today's blip is the lovely orchid that T & C left for us. Along with a huge bowl of Easter eggs, a bottle of wine, lots of food... oh, and two huge bags of toilet rolls (they hadn't spotted our stash in the cupboard and had bought two for one).

Normally when house swapping you leave milk, bread and butter for incoming house swappers, but it never works out that both swaps do the same. Usually you don't get to meet them as you arrange to swap on the same day, so it's always a bonus when you do. They are invariably nice people. Except for two. Read on...

Our Canadian house swappers from years ago had ready meals bought for us! They were spectacular house swappers, and we consider them friends. We're going to visit them in their Prince Edward Island home in the near future. They looked after us so well, as they didn't leave till a few days after we arrived. They took us to Niagara Falls, and we met all the family. They had originally wanted our flat to visit their son, who was training to be a minister at St Giles. When he graduated a couple of years later, we were invited to the family party down at the Whisky Rooms in Leith.

The next time we swapped, to New York, we left pizza and salad and wine as well as everyday items. They had emailed and said to 'use anything in the fridge except the tins of caviar'. But when we got there, the humungous fridge had nothing in it. They hadn't even made up the beds. That was the only time that people weren't overly generous and welcoming. Then we went back to just leaving wine, shortbread and essentials.

The place is a bit quiet. I can slummock a-bed, browsing on the iPad, and no wee doggie bouncing around, waiting to be taken out :-(

I think I need a Post-Henry Pickup...

There have been rumblings for a while about a new iPad. It would certainly save squabbling on the sofa of an evening when we both want to browse. Perhaps a wee visit into JL to fondle one is on order today...
