Lake Baikal

The largest, oldest, deepest lake in the world, and the site of the Baikal Ice Marathon. Today we ran across the ice: I ran the half marathon, finishing in the middle of the lake, but ridiculousman ran the full marathon, coming seventh, reaching the opposite side and meeting some amused locals wondering why on earth an Englishman had just rocked up on the shore. An incredible experience. Not many landmarks aside from the blades of ice jutting up out of the 'ground', and the mountains in the distance never seem to get any closer, but the cold was bearable (-20 at the start, but getting warmer and with very little wind) and the sun was shining. And we were on Lake Baikal...
