Stellar's Jay
I took a walk this afternoon along the First Street Deschutes River Trail. What a wonderful photo shoot I had--butterflies, swans, geese, ducks, river, all sorts of things! This Stellar's Jay turned just right for me to get this most impertinent shot. They are very prevalent in Central Oregon. They make a very raucous sound, but their flash of blue as they fly is beautiful!
The Steller's Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) is a jay native to western North America, closely related to the Blue Jay found in the rest of the continent, but with a black head and upper body. It is also known as the Long-crested Jay, Mountain Jay, and Pine Jay. It is the only crested jay west of the Rocky Mountains.
