The Big Man

You will be wondering who the handsome chap on the bench is. It's Sandy Irvine Robertson, sculpted by Lucy Poett on commission by his friends a few years after his untimely death in 1999.

Like very many others, I was fortunate to get to know him, though only for a couple of years. Others who knew him longer have penned better biographies, but one could not fail to be impressed by his charm and wit and the sheer scale of his personality.

We enjoyed his statue just after enjoying an excellent tea in the nearby Shore Bar.
