Grandpa Pose

Al always does this after strenuous hiking (or any other time he thinks it's funny!) so we all wanted to show him how much he was missed on this trip.

We had just finished a two mile hike, up and down stairs and into canyons and under (yes, under!!) a couple of waterfalls. Belle had fallen, Brody had slipped on wet rocks, but they shook it off and carried on. We were all worn out in a good way.

The redbuds were amazing, and you can see one of many carved statues behind them.

Starved Rock was named for an event that occurred when two Native American tribes were warring. One tribe trapped the other on top of a cliff, and waited until they starved. The wooden carvings are everywhere throughout the park.

There was still enough energy in the group to enjoy a great swim in the pool and then another great dinner at the lodge. The food was incredibly good for a restaurant in a state park!!!
