Shell carving

More experimentation with the macro lens today. This is a shell given to me by my grandmother. I am not sure what sort of shell it is but it is well over 100 years old. I have always been fascinated by the Victorian carving. This close up shows it more clearly. I like the rather odd moustache, which looks like a fake! Is he trying to disguise himself?
