Life through the lens...

By ValC

The morning after.

This is Wood Hall Hotel and Spa at Linton, near Wetherby, where the wedding reception was held yesterday, and where we stayed last night.

We woke up to a glorious sunny morning. Cloudless sky, and birds singing.
There had been a frost overnight, and you could still see some on parts of the grass which were still in the shade.
As it was so nice I decided to go for a walk before breakfast.
We had all arranged to meet up in the dining room at about 9am. and at 8.30 when I went out there wasn't a soul about!
The hotel is in a beautiful setting. Down a road/drive about 2 miles long.
Wonderful views over the country side and down to the river.

The first mansion was built after the Norman Conquest by Malgar de Vavasour
and the home of his decendants for several hundred years.
It was on the banks of the River Wharfe, but was destroyed by Cromwell's army in the Civil War .They threw the stone work into the river, but during this century some of the stones were recovered and the York coat of arms can be seen as decoration in the front hall of the hotel.

The present building was built in 1750 when it passed to the Scott family of Scott Hall , Leeds.
In 1935 it became a boys prep school, and Sir Len Hutton the Yorkshire and England cricketer attended the school.
In 1966 it was bought by the diocese of Leeds, and there is still a Carmelite monestry at the rear of the hotel.

Since opening the hotel, the courtyard wing has replaced the stables, and a new wing has been added to incorporate Spa facilities.

The photo is taken from the drive. Lovely daffs. out all the way along at the moment.

Well now back down to earth!
The M& S dine for £10 meal is ready. Will just pour the wine!

Hope you all had a good weekend too!

(Forgot to say I back bliped yesterday's wedding.)
