Bank Street, Mid Calder
The Torphichen Arms was a very busy coaching Inn (1760) where the horses were changed on the first stop from Edinburgh. The stables lay through the pend. (arch) There was a mail coach every day as well as passenger coaches to Glasgow and Ayr. The street was lit by gas lamps from it's own gas works behind the Inn. The large building is the bank and the other buildings date from the 18th century.
