~Flower Anticipation~

~Trichocereus Cactus Flower Bud~

As I have mentioned before, when this cactus
puts up a flower, it only last one night.
In the morning it will begin to wither.
By noon it will be very shriveled and drooping.
But that doesn't diminish its one night stand.
A glorious half foot across, bright red with
yellow and white pollen stamens.
And did I mention the fragrance,
a very overpowering aroma.
It has to have a strong sweet smell,
as it is only pollinated by bats and moths.
It only blooms at night, remember.
During the year this yard cactus of mine
blooms about twenty times.
Each time it does flower, it's kind
of like seeing it for the first time.
I watch it a lot during the day, preparing to open.
And go out at night many times to marvel as it unfolds.
I stand in awe and stare in fascination, oh nature!!!
