Une Femme Formidable
This is Irene, a neighbour to us in the Dower House.
She is the widow of a lawyer, a lady of a certain age, who graduated last summer with a Masters degree in Political Science and who has now embarked on a PhD.
Apart from the fact that she is scintillating company, I can only admire the energy she puts into University life with three hour lectures and seminars, and mixing on an equal footing with students a third of her age.
His Lordship and I took the air this morning and walked round our old stamping ground, just to see what had been afoot since we left 18 months ago. Not much, but we managed to have a 'nosey' at our old garden from the window of our erstwhile next door neighbour.
I not only miss the Camellia bushes and the Magnolia tree but the seclusion the garden offered behind its high walls.
There was another costly visit to the lawyer this afternoon to fine tune wills and attorneys. Their office up top in Quartermile was looking beautiful in the sunshine with views far and wide and coffers clinking with our pensioner pennies.
The sun umbrella is up outside as if it were June and not March and I'm intending to sit and watch the activity in the Meadows and try and forget about death and wills.
