Looks Good To Me

Feeling Groovy

Is it any wonder that Simon and Garfunkel's 59th Street Bridge song kept going through my head while I was working in my shop today? Woodworking types will know that those grooves are more properly called dados.

This was the first time I used my Avenger dado saw blade set, after I managed to knock one of the blades off the bench onto the concrete floor, chipping three teeth (the blade, not mine). I usually have rubber floor mats next to the bench, but they weren't there today when I needed them most.

The blade tips are pieces of tungsten carbide welded to a steel disc. Carbide is an extremely hard, but brittle, material. You can see one of the broken teeth in this close-up of the blade.

I was making a storage unit for sanding discs. It's finished, and ready for a coat of polyurethane.

No more rummaging through a pile of discs to find the right grade!
