Learning day by day

Mothering Sunday

What a lovely day! I got a lie-in until a time of my choosing, 08.15. Then I got to go out for a run and have a shower without interruption (that in itself would have made my day). I then came down to find the table set for one, with a beautiful bunch of tulips, four cards, a basket of chocolates and Carys acting as the waitress, waiting to take my breakfast order.

I was treated to scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, with orange juice, followed by croissants with butter and jam and a cup of tea. Carys wrote my oder down on her pad and took it to chef (Daddy) to cook, whilst William climbed on my knee, raided my chocolates and helped me open my cards. Both children then developed a taste for smoked salmon and consummed a fair amount from my plate.

Once they and Daddy were dressed we headed off to the English Bird of Prey Centre at Shuttleworth. We arrived in time for the Eagle talk and Carys held a Chilean Blue Eagle (close second to this shot) which she loved after her initial reluctance. The first flying display was amazing. At one point one falconer was flying two falcons at once and they are so fast. The bossy Golden Eagle (called Emma!) was beautiful and flew very close over head. This is one of the fishing eagles, but for the life of me I can't remember which one, sorry. Carys loves birds anyway but William was entranced by the birds.

We went off for lunch and then spent some time on the great play area there, before heading back for the second flying display. We were slightly early so we had a little wander round and William came out with "I like Barn Owl, see Barn Owl" as clear as day. Now I knew he knew what an owl was but this was quite specific and happily on the way to the main arena we saw a Barn Owl. Better still they flew 6 owls at one time, three of them being Barn Owls, of which I got some lovely shots. They also flew 5 Harris Hawks but they are so hard to capture well, but I do love them and one day I might have the ability to do them justice.

Home for tea and bed. Chinese takeaway for the grown ups and a spot of blipping and back blipping.

Thank you to my beautiful loving children for an extra special day and to their lovely Daddy for helping them out. Love you all. x
