Venus, Jupiter and Amenhotep III
For several days now, I've seen Venus and Jupiter as the brightest objects in our night sky. So tonight, I went to the car park by the Colossi of Memnon, when the Theban Hills were illuminated and managed to capture the planets within the same frame as one of the two giant statues - Venus is the brightest one towards the top of this picture.
This enormous statue, made from one block of Aswan granite, has stood here since around 1350 BC - the second Colossus was badly damaged in an earthquake around 27BC and restored in Roman times. The Theban Hills have been illuminated for about 2 years, and are best viewed from Luxor city - here the bright white light can be overpowering.
