The Nile Valley Sunbird
These beautiful little birds are native to north east Africa and the Arabian peninsula - during winter both sexes are a dull, drab colour, but when the mating urge starts during February, the male drastically transforms himself into a dandy. Iridescent blue plumage on his back, and a bright yellow stomach make him attractive to the females. This one was drinking nectar from some flowers on the bank of the Nile when I saw him.
A sure sign that our seasons are changing!
