Kelvingrove Museum Organ
We had a 'free' day today, by which I mean everything we did was free, courtesy of our over-60's buspass. We took a bus from home to town, citylink to Glasgow, bus to Kelvingrove Museum, visit the museum (free) then the reverse for the transport home. Apart from a Traveline error, which told us the wrong stop for the Kelvingrove bus (two bus companies with the same route number but different stops) the links worked very well.
There is a daily organ recital at the museum and we were entertained by Christopher Nickol with several of his own arrangements on the Victorian instrument in the main hall. He is Director of Music at New Kilpatrick Church, Bearsden and accompanist to the Bearsden choir.
We enjoyed exhibitions of the Glasgow Boys and of the Glasgow School of Art (Charles Rennie Mackintosh and co.) and also the Salvador Dali 'Christ of St John of the Cross'. I took lots of photos, but such a wide range of exhibits cannot be summed up in one photo, so this is the organ from the upper gallery after the recital.
