What a day!
I've been putting up a fruit cage today. (sparrows - see yesterday's blip)
When I worked out how it went and got it together the net didn't fit because the canes are too broad to fit snugly in the sockets. Note to self - complain to company.
A sharpened knife and whittling took until lunchtime. Still no joy - the net was just too short. They really need to allow some overlap but didn't.
No worries - bright idea - use the netting I bought the other day.
That worked.
Next set up the internal poles and netting to support the peas, brace the poles, and plant the peas I had grown on. Cover with fleece and voila - a whole day gone!
The only problem is that I can't set the rows up across the bed as I wouldn't be able to get in to pick them. So to compensate for that I'm going to grow a row on both sides to climb the same net. Let's hope it doesn't get too complicated. I tend to save my own seed from heritage varieties but I may not be able to do that in future. It also cuts down the amount I can grow.
Oh well!
