In The Occupied Territory

Your Honour

I was called up for jury duty today.
This is the sheriff court annex that the case was held in, court 1, with His Honour Lord Uist presiding.
After sitting for just half an hour in the jury room, we were all taken up stairs to the aforementioned court, and told how things work at the court, and who sits where and who does what.
Before the clerk of the court made the ballot of the names to see which 15 would be used, she asked if any of us were self employed.
Three of us answered in the positive, and we were taken outside the door and were given the option to continue or to be discharged.
We all decided to take the latter course, and went our separate ways.
It would have been interesting to stay and see the case through, but since it was destined to be a 5/6 day trial, it was a relatively easy choice to make.
Pity about missing out on the free lunches at La Lombardos though.
