IdeaPad

I spent this morning setting up my neighbour's new Lenovo Netbook. I'm not sure why it's called IdeaPad as it doesn't have any independent ideas nor is it a touch pad, it's an AMD Windows 7 64 bit mini laptop - fine.

Buying the laptop was the easy bit apparently; getting out of the shop was the difficult bit. My neighbour was bombarded by the sales staff to purchase all sorts of add-on, none of which she needed. MS Office, it has MS Office Starter bundled and Open Office is available free from Oracle, Norton Anti-Virus, it has a trial version of Kaspersky, but perfectly good free antivirus software is available, including from Microsoft, extended warranty for so much per month.....

Luckily I had already warned her that she would be pressurised, and I would sort everything she needs on the laptop without any add-ons, so she stood firm and eventually managed to leave the shop clutching her laptop frazzled by the experience!

Final rant - the laptop was the last in the shop and as such the demo model on the shelf the public had had their sticky fingers on, was she offered a discount? - No, she asked and was refused!

Anyway the laptop is now ready for her, having cleared off a lot of the rubbish that is bundled on new laptops these days - and hopefully the two of them will be very happy in their computing future.
