Some say weird, we say idiosyncratic
First off - thanks to all of you who shared my joy yesterday at having sold four (four!) of my pics from the exhibition. I keep tittering to myself.
Anyway: yes, this really is a photo of a cast iron fire surround propped against a chimney breast (our chimney breast) with a mirror in front of it. We have 3 of these cast iron fire surrounds, with all the bits, which we have been dragging around for about 15 years a) because they came from Roland's grandfather's house b) because we think they are beautiful and c) because at one time we really did think we would have a house in which they could be installed.
We think it looks fine and there is a certain school of thought that says the use of mirrors can make a room look bigger. The second fire surround is propped up in our middle room and the third is under the stairs.
The party yesterday evening was pleasant: most of the people there were about 20 years younger than us - it was a housewarming for someone who worked for me about 6 years ago, and we've remained friends - and most of the guys arrived bearing beautifully baked cakes, biscuits and other goodies and spent the evening drinking fruit juice or herbal teas whereas their womenfolk kept busy necking wine from the bottle and talking techno-babble. It was great.
