Female Sonoran Bumble Bee in Hawaii

A perfect clear day here in Kona, our last full day here to enjoy the sun and warm weather and then it is back to Oregon! Bob said the predictions for winter weather are in store for us when we return...not what I had hoped for;))

Today I want to share some photo of the Sonoran Bees here on Hawaii. They were introduced back in the 1800's and they lay their eggs in wood by burrowing out holes, but they are useful in pollinating crops. The females are light and have a stinger, the males are black and do not sting!
