Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Street end park

Quite a lovely day today - it was dry and warm enough for us to have a nice row and for these guys to pour concrete in the park at the end of our street. I was struck by the fact that there were a LOT of brightly dressed guys for this job. One is directing traffic behind the mixer. Many of the street ends that run into Lake Union all have little pocket parks - ours used to be full of wretched ivy and dilapidated benches next to stately Lombardy Poplar and Willow trees. It's being redesigned by a landscape architect in the neighborhood and the city. It will have a concrete pad and new benches, plantings and some artwork (maybe relating to the fact that this spot was the first place a Boing mail seaplane operated.) I had a discussion with one of the builders about this amount of concrete and he related how most all of the "green" permeable stuff gets clogged very fast if it's not cleaned all the time and just plain doesn't work. Hummm.
The water here will just run off into the lake at the bottom of the rocky slope.

And yes, I was playing with the photomerge :-) The 3 guys on the left are repeats of 3 on the right ....but it was still a lot of people and wheelbarrrows in a small area. They are pouring the retaining wall behnd the benches, the pad will come later....
