Oskar is 6

Oskar turned 6 today and the family gathered at a neighborhood restaurant - he'll have his friends for a party on the weekend. I know this is a less than sterling shot but don't have anything other than the party photos to show for this busy day (a good row in the am, necessary shopping, good book club discussion in the afternoon -The Lemon Tree, by Sandy Tolen-and trying to make any sense of the Palestine questions)- There wasn't any space to turn around in the restaurant, there were mirrors, the cousins were all doing their own thing, the noise level made thinking, much less talking, impossible, and I had to use the little powershot. whine, whine. So I used this picture to practice selective coloring (which is very slick!) I'll be better organized for #365. (I hope). 300 and it's still fun!


Tech stuff (a la Willis?)
someone asked about the selective color so I'm just adding this pretty simple and quick but FUN method I used with PS Elements 8.
Open a photo. click the create adjustment layer and choose hue/saturation and move the saturation slider to -100. It's now colorless.
with adjustment layer on, Use a black paintbrush (35 round soft edge? or smaller for details)) to wipe out the adjustment layer showing the color underneath. If you paint out too much, switch to white brush to re-add the adjustment layer.
You can fuss with contrast and sharpness if you want.
