Ingenious
It will be found, in fact, that the ingenious are always fanciful, and the truly imaginative never otherwise than analytic.
--Edgar Allen Poe
Been away from blipping the past few days with other work, two shows to be exact. I tried, but it was too much to handle, I guess. If I had a handy point and shoot digital doohickey I could have pulled it off.
Today is the 3rd day of the Boise Art Museum's fundraiser Art in the Park. I pulled off another "gimmee" random word and decided to keep it, wanting to see if I could truly find some ingenious artwork at a show that has been pretty dissappointing the past 2 - 3 years. 250 vendors from mostly the northwest but some from elsewhere, selling their wares for a hefty booth fee plus 15% commission. A juried event, nonetheless there are a handful or so here that probably shouldn't be, but probably sell enough to warrant their return. If you don't meet a certain income level ($1,500 - $2,000) on your commission you aren't invited back. That's what I've heard from insiders.
Anyway, this guy makes these kinetic wind sculptures and they are fanciful and beautiful, precision glass and metal. Different parts geared and rotating and spinning in different directions, inside other orbits, all very silently and smoothly. Averaging about $5,000 - $6,000 each (and up, these were the ones he brought to this show) they would look great in any landscape. He hasn't been to Art in the Park for the past 2 - 3 years and it was good to see his work again.
