goose sentry...

...standing at attention at the top of the embankment

why he climbed up there... i've no idea - well - actually - two of his friends had also scaled the brick wall... for some reason i think they believed there was food up there on the trail path... there wasn't, so they wandered away... this one though - remained... standing guard - watching... waiting... letting out a honk-honk every now and again... perhaps as a warning or maybe a reminder - who knows... the entire time i was at the lake - there he stood... same position, not moving - as though something was calling him to remain vigilant and on duty, and he was taking his responsibility seriously...

i found that with sentries for the military - it is a duty to be taken with care - when you get your orders to sentry, there are 11 general orders that must be followed while you are on duty... these are to be memorized - recited verbatim if asked - although the army and air force have engaged a condensed form today of those original 11... still - don't feel any pressure by commanding officers when confronted. of course, mr. goose doesn't need to be concerned with being questioned - i've no doubt he's doing just fine... the other geese and ducks gathered at the lake should feel plenty safe under his watch - making for...

a

happy day.....
