Sweet almond blossom of Andalucia.

This white almond blossom is a sure sign that the almonds on this tree are going to be sweet ones.
In this area, there are two types of blossoming almond trees, white or pink.
The white ones mean sweet almonds, whereas the pink blossom means they will be bitter because they contain a very tiny amount of cyanide.
Because the returns are so small these days on almonds, most of the trees are no longer harvested as it just is'nt worth the hard work involved.
Today is Dia de Andalucia, a holiday to celebtate joining the autonomous community of the rest of Spain on 28th February 1980.
The Andalucian flag is green and white, which may well have been inspired by the sweet white almond blossom on green twigs.
