The answer, my friend....

...is blowing in the wind, if you're ancient enough to remember the Bob Dylan song, though I blush to admit I preferred the Simon and Garfunkel version.

Caught these Pampas Grass heads at Wisley and they sparked a bitter-sweet memory. We lost one of our cats in October last year. Caspar had been with us from age 12 weeks until he was 18 - a real member of the family. He had several endearing habits - and one or two others as well. One game he played was to jump up at a neighbour's Pampas Grass and snap a head off about a foot from the ground, then he'd carry it over his shoulder and bring it in through the cat flap! Bearing in mind that the stem was probably a metre long, and he had to negotiate a wooden fence almost 2 metres high before threading it through the 20 cm square cat flap, this was no mean feat.
