Victoria Memorial

The Victoria Memorial is in front of Buckingham Palace, London.

It was dedicated 10 years after the Queen Empress' death, in 1911 by George V and his first cousin Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany - both grandson's of Victoria.

A statue of Queen Victoria faces the Mall and on the pinnacle is a statue of a gilded winged Victory.

It was widely derided at the time by those with "taste" as "the Wedding Cake" given the amount of white stone, but has become a much loved part of the landscape of London. It was recently cleaned in preparation for the Royal Wedding last year and Diamond Jubilee this year.
