Assyrian human-headed winged lion c860 BC
One of a pair of lions from the throne room of the palace of Ashurnasirpal (883-859 BC), now in the British Museum.
They provided magical protection for the building and war ropes. The five legs suggest they were meant to be viewed from the side.
