Warm Coats

I had a quick foray onto the moor in search of signs of spring, although the sunshine is still militated by a cold wind.

I'd mentioned a couple of weekends ago that I'd seen a flock of Lapwings circling the moor, but I hadn't yet been up to check their usual pasture. I saw one parading the turf today, so I'll take that as confirmation that they've arrived. The Oystercatchers and Curlews summer on the other side of the moor, but I haven't made it over there to check on them yet.

No sign of the frogs yet either, last year I saw the first spawning ones on February 26 and the year before on March 13. If we have a couple of warm days, perhaps they'll split the difference this year? I'll get back to you on that.

Much more reliable are the local herd of shaggy beasts that are currently in the next field along from the Lapwings, and they were displaying plenty of attitude today.

Oh, and then Wales beat England and won the Triple Crown. What a day.
