Breakfast With Woody
The March winds are roaring in at 50 miles per mile and the noise woke me at 6:45am. I was at the park by 7:40, just in time to see the lovely sight of 20 or so robins dotting the landscape. As I trained the lens on a robin, I noticed the red V on the back of it's neck.
That's not a robin!
It was a little woodpecker and he was busily probing the dirt for his breakfast of worms and grubs. I stayed very quiet while he worked his way down the fence line.
I am thrilled to see him hanging out with the red breasts. He's about their size, maybe a tad larger.
Here's a flickr photo of him gazing off into the meadow.
