Fire, Fuel, Air and Smoke

Which is the odd one out?

This dirty horrible thing used to be Dog's air filter and is the cause of all the problems recently.

Today, whilst stranded at Lowes watching the day go to waste, I decided to think through the basics of engine combustion - Fire, Fuel and Air.

Well I checked the Fire - by God Dog has a good kick from the spark plugs. I figured the electric shock I got was a good sign for fire.

Then checked the Fuel - definitely getting fuel, so that leaves air. Popped open the aircleaner, and the engine started instantly. So that answers that problem.

As per normal, everything is linked.

When I fixed the manifold leak (which was throwing unburned petrol into the engine bay), it meant that more petrol was being burned, which in turn made the vehicle a little less smelly.

But in turn the unburned petrol is then burned in the exhaust pipe, and the exhaust pipe have many holes in it, simply let the black smoke wander round the engine bay, and into the air filter.

So at the end of the day, the mixture is totally wrong and if i get a couple of good days at the weekend I'm going to try my hand at tuning it a bit and stuffing carb cleaner down it.
