Our life in the Borders

The pheasant

Remarkably beautiful, and remarkably stupid.

This pheasant has taken to wandering around our garden in the afternoon - from the field, into our neighbour's garden, and then on to us. Each time it gets behind this small mesh fence and spends about 10 minutes wandering up and down in a perplexed fashion trying to work out how to get to the other side. What a contrast to the constantly alert and quicksilver woodpecker.

No wonder pheasant ends up on the plate.
