Gran McKay's Drop Scones
It's Shrove Tuesday, so Mum said we could make pancakes when we got home. We used my great-Gran's recipe (my Gran's Mum). They are the thick Scottish kind - drop scones her recipe calls them. My Dad prefers the really thin kind. I don't mind about the thickness, my only stipulation to Mum was that they had to be flat!
Gran McKay's recipe:
4oz self-raising flour
pinch of salt
1 level tbsp caster sugar
1 egg
1/4 pint milk
Gran's notes say to wipe the pan with lard, but as we don't have any lard, I used a combination of sunflower oil and butter!
