Oriental Bay

Posting late at the end of a long day. Up earlier than usual because I had a 0730 flight to Wellington. Just after we were loaded onto the plane, we were told that the final "walk around check" has found a ding in a panel towards the rear of the plane, and they needed to evaluate this (basically measure the size), so we would be delayed a few minutes. Then we were told that unfortunately it was too big to allow the plane to fly unless or until authorised by Boeing in the US, and that would take a couple of hours.

However, they were trying to get to use the plane which had just landed. A couple of minutes later we were told that was the plan and we would be boarding again in about 20 - 30 minutes. While we waited, a PA announcement was made that the 0800 flight to Wellington was delayed for engineering requirements. Turns out the 0800 passengers were bumped for us.

Ex leader of the Parliamentary Opposition was a passenger, and maybe other MPs also, and therefore we all got special treatment. Don't know. But a colleague who was booked on the 0800 ended up being 2 hours late for the meeting, flying on what should have been our plane (there were three of us)

Anyway, a hard day of policy discussions and then dealing with the meat of our purpose, after which I had a short run to clear the brain. Went out through Oriental Bay and along the waterfront to the junction with Evans Bay Parade. This picture is of the Oriental Bay boatsheds. I was taken with the way the roof shape is seen in the boatsheds, the Catholic Church building at the top of the hill, and also in many of the old (100 + years) villas on the hillside.
