There and back again

Headland Warren

Popped back to Dartmoor to fetch my wife and as it was a lovely morning we took Jinxy up on the tops before we headed for home.

It was so clear, you could see Princetown and the prison, 8 miles away

A warren was used to breed rabbits for food and there was a warren house here where the warrener lived. Today it is a farm and holiday cottages and at present on the market for about £600.000 (lease hold)!!

The long scars you can see on the hillside are the remains of tin mining that has taken place in the area since the 1300's and the miners working here would have been ready customers for the rabbits. At one time Dartmoor surpassed Cornwall as the largest producers if tin in the country. It is so peaceful now, its is hard to imagine the noise and the bustle that would have been here when these workings were being worked.
