The Interislander
So today was my last day in Wellington. Spent it wandering around the bays soaking up some UV and getting a nice red sheen.
Around 4.30pm I met up with Ralph and we headed off to meet his friend Daisy and get the ferry to the South Island. The ferry took around 3 hours and was pretty pleasant. I know there'll be heaps of Canada comparisons, but it was very similar to the ferry from Tsawassen to Vancouver Island. Didn't see any whales though!
Made it to Picton around 10pm and after a bit of excitement trying to find the rental car (left securely in the car park with a sign saying Hobbs and the keys behind the number plate) we made it to our hostel - The Sequoia Lodge (very nice). After dumping our bags and having an intense chat with an Israeli girl, we took a wander into downtown Picton. This ended up being a bee-line through deserted streets to a Scottish bar which was open, despite the chairs on the tables. Had a nice refreshing pint of something decidedly un-Scottish then headed back to the hostel and to bed.
This shot is taken of the north of the South Island, making our way to Picton at sunset. Scenery was something pretty special.
