The owl (and the pussy Kat)
Something weird happened today. I couldn't entirely handle a tattoo. This pretty owl is my 20th, and she's set to be big (obviously - she takes up most of my lower leg. I'm 5'9", and have the same length legs as a 6'1" male). She wasn't going to be finished today; there is a chain coming off the compass which will wrap around my ankle, come down the right side of my foot, cross over the top near my toes, and finish near the base knuckle of my big toe; with a pisces charm coming off it near my ankle. The plan was to get the outlining and grey/black shading done on her and the compass.
I "bitched out".
I am a pussy... If only for the sake of the title of today's entry.
Having had so many tattoos done before this (two this year, already), I thought I was prepared, as a few people had said the calf/shin/Achilles area HURTS. I endured three hours on my left foot for my third tattoo... I endured three hours on my thigh while having an allergic reaction to the latex gloves that were accidentally used. I endured four and a half hours of fine detail on my back (twice). But this... THIS WAS AGONY. There was a lot of swearing, apologising, flinching, apologising, spasming, apologising, and kicking poor Kurt... I didn't apologise for that, though. :P He was hurting me. He deserved it. And the bad names.
So, once the owl was shaded, I had to stop. No more. Could not deal. I'm taking pain killers for the next sitting.
And, as always, there is a deep emotional reason for this tattoo.
The pisces charm represents my darling Master Four Year Old. The compass represents finding my way because of him - I was pretty lost before he came about. He gave me my sense of direction, and keeps me on course. And the owl is symbolic of keeping a watch over Master Four Year Old, and the wisdom I have gained from being a mother. When more kids come along, there will be star sign charms added to the chain on my foot for them, too.
Off I go to rub cream into my leg and feel sorry for myself.
