A Writer's Life

Small pleasures

After a somewhat confused morning, during which I almost left the house wearing slippers (which, in the rain, might have become a bit uncomfortable), I managed to corral my mind into a shaky but workable plan for the next conference paper. It took a lot of Facebook, a few pages of another novel I have to read, a quick run out of the library to get a pad of paper, and seeing the time flying towards my 4pm deadline, time at which I intended to leave the library. As it has been proven numerous times, I work better under pressure. So plan there is.

After that, I did the New York after work ritual: errands to run, that took me on both sides of the park, which allowed me to cross the park at the exact moment the sun was coming down. And because there was a plan in my backpack, I gave myself a tiny treat: a waffle, with chocolate and strawberries. Then, home, dinner, a short flash party in one of the girls' bedroom where there were fruits, trashy magazines, and girl talk. Then, bed.
