Swinging away on the sledgehammer
Well I was trying to take down the porch in a structured way (eg slowly) but ended up taking a sledgehammer to it in desperation as one bit refused to budge. 2 minutes later a bit of wood went flying (several nails sticking out) and down my arm. Didn't notice it at the time - but it's a good 6 inches long.
As per normal one job (albeit a big one) has now sprouted another job on the house which is to replace an end board on the rafters, and then put a metal jacket round it before I screw a base board onto it for the new porch. The idea is that any contamination of the porch from water damage doesn't wick up into the rafters - like it probably has with the old one.
By the time I have this board off, I may well be sistering up a few rafters as well!
I wouldn't mind, but this roof and porch was originally owned by a professional roofer!?
