More cabbage soup-making tonight before a week of ultra-healthy eating. The Knorr vegetable stock cubes have got no MSG but the OXOs were buy one get one free in the Co-Op. Me Mum gave me the tin a year or so ago and for such a simple thing I love it. It's got an old-time feel of solidity to it; and of course one can line one's stock cubes up in an obsessive compulsive way.

I'm slowly using up last year's onions and in the last few days have started to sow the beginnings of this year's crops. Broad beans, chile and some early radishes are germinating and the first early spuds are chitting.

At some point, I'm going to have to attack the brambles in the back garden. It's going to be bloody.....
