aged elegance

Why is it that older things are just so much more appealing?

We bought this 1950's lipstick, powder and cigarette compact for the Boss's birthday.
Is it the romance and nostalgia and the unspoken stories that ooze from it interior? Is it that everything seems much better made? It has a delightful heaviness to it, the perfect weight from a bygone era in an age of superlight ipads and featherlight smartphones. It has lasted 60 years and is still in perfect working order. Is it because its a perfect functional minimal object containing everything a lady would need, making redundant massive bottomless pits of handbags, and bringing to light the excesses we accumulate.

I was definately coveting this however there's no room for a camera or phone so the blipping would suffer. Best give it away.
